The Day Are Dwindling...

I won't talk about the AP Biology exam. Deduce from that what you will. I will, however, talk about the end of high school.

This is my last week of high school. It's hard to wrap my mind around this idea. This is my last week of high school. Ever.

I am not a sentimental person but only a robot would be immune from feeling sad at the end of high school. Yes, I'm looking forward to college. Yes, most of the time during the past four years at NDP I was counting the days until graduation. Yes, I can't wait to move out of state and live on my own. But I can't just let this moment pass by without pausing.

My school: small (135 graduating seniors), Catholic (School Sisters of Notre Dame), college preparatory (it's in the name - Notre Dame Preparatory School), old fashioned.

We have a lot of traditions (Gym Meet is the big one and our uniforms haven't changed since 1865). Some traditions I get sick of but some I actually love. One tradition that I find myself appreciating is writing Senior Letters.

You don't have to write a letter to everyone. I'm writing about 40 letters. Some are long, some are short. Some letters are funny, others are meaningful. The letters are whatever you want them to be. Goodbye, I'm sorry, Thank you, I love you, or everything all at once.

After my exam today I went to Barnes & Noble and sat in the cafe for almost two hours writing Senior Letters. I got three letters done, for three of my best friends. It was embarrassing to sit in the cafe alone, writing letters by hand, and crying to yourself. But it was nice. I said everything I had always wanted to say but never could.

I'm sad high school is ending. I'm sad to be leaving my friends, some of whom I have known since kindergarten. I like writing these letters because they remind me to pause and pay respect to the past four (or twelve) years of my life.

I'll be moving away soon but I'll be taking my letters and my friends. It's not over quite yet but the end is approaching. I'm going to make sure that I appreciate everything now before it's too late and I'm just remembering.

Expect every blog post this week to be sentimental, nostalgic, sappy, etc.

NEW FEATURE
Reading: The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Orczy
I am a sucker for romance and adventure so I thought I would go straight to the classic. I loved studying the French Revolution this year in history class and I love Lauren Willig's Pink Carnation* series so it is about time I read this book.

Listening: Since March, Since September, and Still - The Mudbloods
Thanks, Hayley G. Hoover! This song is now my new favorite thing ever. I've been listening to it on nonstop repeat for about two days now. And now because of this song I've finally gotten into Wizard Rock after three years of resisting the call. I know. I'm a horrible Harry Potter nerd for not discovering my love for this music sooner.

*Romance, Chick Lit, History, Adventure, Spies - What isn't to love? The whole series is great.
