For most college students, Friday is a time to catch up on sleep. At my university, we have a Monday-Wednesday, Tuesday-Thursday set schedule of classes, which means that only random discussion sections and lab sections meet on Fridays. By the time you're a junior* and you have more control over your schedule, there is practically no reason to have a class on Friday. Today, however, I had to trek up to campus.
I was not very happy about this. My professor had set up a mysterious meeting and I had a forboding feeling about it. To make matters worse, I had to wait outside his office for ten minutes and the hallway smelled strongly of Ramen Noodles. It was an unpleasant experience to say the least.
Basically, as I sit here writing this blog post, I feel sick to my stomach. I just returned from campus. Of course, I have to acknowledge the irony. Just yesterday I wrote a whole blog post about my uncertainty about life and my future. And then today my professor surprised me with a stressful meeting to discuss my future plans. It's cruel to spring such a distressing discussion on a college student without any warning. Let's just say that I don't want to talk about it.
And so, instead I am going to go ahead wtih the blog post I had already had planned for today.
50 Books Challenge 2011
I am not doing too well with the challenge this year. Last time I completed the challenge was in 2009. It hadn't been particularly hard to read 50 books that year because for the first half of the year I was a second-semester high school senior and had a lot of free time. Now, I'm a college student and that is definitely no longer the case. It's hard to find any free time to read for pleasure when at school**.
And so here is an update of the books I have read so far in 2011:
1. Skippy Dies - Paul Murray
2. Clockwork Angel - Cassandra Claire
3. Half Broke Horses - Jeannette Walls
4. Franny and Zooey - J. D. Salinger
5. A Midsummer Night's Dream - William Shakespeare
6. Othello - William Shakespeare
7. Atonement - Ian McEwan
8. Hamlet - William Shakespare
9. A Game of Thrones - George R. R. Martin
10. King Lear - William Shakespeare
I am about 3 books behind where I should be right now. Hopefully, I will be able to make up for lost reading time over the summer when I will have no classes to worry about.
*I have junior standing because I came in with an extra semester of credits, but I'm only in my second year.
** I include books read for classes in the challenge, however. Otherwise there would be no way I could ever read 50 books in one year.
